Pacific Chorale Takes the Hollywood Bowl Stage for "Amadeus Live"
"Perfectly synchronized."
— Entertainment Today, on the LA Phil and Pacific Chorale in Amadeus Live
On September 3, 2026, Pacific Chorale joined the Los Angeles Philharmonic at the Hollywood Bowl for Amadeus Live, a screening of Miloš Forman's 1984 Academy Award–winning film with its score performed live. Norman Huynh conducted the orchestra and chorus as the film played on the Bowl's big screen.
Choral music is central to Amadeus. The soundtrack draws on some of Mozart's best-loved sacred works, including movements from the Requiem and the Great Mass in C minor. Performing those pieces live, in time with the picture, left no room for error. The singers had to match every cut and cue on screen, all in front of one of Southern California's largest audiences.
Critics noticed. In his review for Entertainment Today, Brad Auerbach wrote that the LA Philharmonic and Pacific Chorale provided "perfectly synchronized live substitutions for the lush score." He compared the evening to the earliest days of cinema, when a live pianist or organist accompanied silent films.
