Spotlight on David and Darrellyn Melilli

Pacific Chorale is proud to celebrate two individuals whose devotion to the arts—and to our organization—has shaped who we are today: David and Darrellyn Melilli.

Long before we were the GRAMMY® Award-winning Pacific Chorale, we were the Irvine Master Chorale, founded in 1968 under the leadership of Maurice Allard. Among the very first members of this ambitious new ensemble were David and Darrellyn—a couple whose passion for music and community would go on to influence the Chorale for decades to come.

Darrellyn was our original “star soprano,” her radiant voice and artistry anchoring many of those early performances. Her musical gifts, coupled with a deep love for choral singing, left an indelible impression on all who shared the stage with her. We’re lucky to have a treasured photo of her from a 1969 concert program—a reminder of the youthful energy and joy she brought to every performance.

David’s leadership was no less impactful. As a former board president, he helped guide the Chorale through critical moments of growth and change, ensuring our values and vision stayed strong. His steady hand and commitment to excellence have had a lasting impact on the organization we are today.

Together, the Melillis have given more than their time and talents—they’ve given their hearts. They recently reaffirmed their dedication with a generous gift to Pacific Chorale’s endowment, helping secure our future for years to come. We’re overjoyed to see Concordia University Irvine recognize David and Darrellyn with their Lifetime Achievement Award for service to the arts and community. It is a richly deserved honor for two people whose lives have truly been in harmony with our mission.

From all of us at Pacific Chorale—thank you, David and Darrellyn. You will always be part of our story.
